Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters is holding its annual Chanukah Camp for boys and girls between the ages of seven and fourteen who are associated with Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters or are a part of the Jewish community within the greater Los Angeles area. We are hiring Cabin Counselors, Kitchen Staff and Program Instructors that can teach the following: Arts and Crafts; Drama; Judaica; Archery; Music/Dance; Team Building; Sports and Ranch. Staff members must be available to stay at the camp from December 27th (Saturday evening) – through 3:00 pm on Thursday, December 31, 2009. In addition to room and board for the week, staff members will receive $255 for our five-day Chanukah Camp.
Chanukah camp will be held at Camp Max Straus, which is located in the Verdugo Mountains in the Glendale-Pasadena area just north of Los Angeles. Camp Max Straus maintains a high staff to camper ratio. Cabin groups consist of ten children and two counselors. Additionally, one to two specialists teach each of the program areas. Camp Max Straus is accredited by the American Camp Association and has been providing a quality camping experience for the children of the greater Los Angeles area since 1938.

The Skirball Cultural Center seeks a motivated, problem-solving, results-oriented professional to lead the effort across the institution to provide the delivery of exceptional customer service to Skirball Cultural Center visitors and members. The Visitor Services Director will provide leadership, direction, and mission-driven training for admissions/reception, membership, and volunteer services. The hours for this full-time, senior level position will be Sunday–Thursday or Tuesday–Saturday. The position reports to the Director of External Affairs.
Responsibilities:
Lead the effort across all departments to provide outstanding customer service to visitors and members. Set goals, develop and conduct training, and evaluate performance. Provide overall leadership for admissions and reception; the volunteer program, to build a loyal, knowledgeable, and effective corps of volunteers to meet changing needs; and the membership program, advising on retention and growth and the cultivation of new and increased financial support. Act as resident expert on Visitor Services systems, trends, and competitive service issues such as customer relationship management strategies, pricing, attendance, amenities, etc. Orchestrate the collection of visitor statistics and surveys; analyze and report on Skirball visitation, trends, and demographics; recommend improvements and changes to policy. Oversee and directly manage ticket sales for exhibitions and programs and “box office” operations. Identify problems and propose solutions to improve wayfinding and promotional signage to enhance the visitor experience. Conduct tours for key visitors, groups, potential donors, and leaders of target collaborative organizations, sharing the mission of the Skirball. Requirements:
Demonstrated success in direct supervision and in building skills and effectiveness of managers. Demonstrated leadership within an organizational setting, including the ability to develop productive and collaborative relationships and teams across levels and departments. Proven leadership experience in customer service in a multi-faceted non-profit or business. Experience in training staff to deliver outstanding customer service. Significant experience in managing membership or volunteer programs strongly preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Working knowledge of membership databases and ticketing/box office software. Ability to work on weekends and some evenings. Knowledge of Jewish history and culture. |
